Review of Cosmic Blobs
from SolidWorks Corporation

Modeller far more than CAD for Kids

(continued...) New primitives appear in randomised colours to prompt variety, but these can be repainted as required.

A resizing tool enables the approximate shape and size to be defined using drag handles.

Much more exciting are the push, poke, scoop and pull tools that enable the model to be interactively manipulated much like Playdoh, using a red placement handle to dynamically update the form and slider modifiers to control the degree of influence and crispness of the feature.

A push button toggles these commands between an indent or bulge.

More exciting still is the ability to sketch profiles either directly on a model surface or in free space that can be used to deform a blob in a specific, custom fashion even where it crosses over a sharp edge.

The bend tool enables a bending bar to be positioned on the model with a static central fulcrum point and manipulation handles at each end to quite literally bend the entire form.

The cursor updates with numbers where commands need more than one placement handle such as the blend command that merges two forms, again using a slider command to control the proportion of the linking form.

Where separate blobs simply overlap, the glue pot can be used to join them into a single whole to be able to scale, move or manipulate as one.

This is one of the few commands that can be selectively reversed later using unglue.

Typically once a command has been committed by clicking off the model or invoking a new command, its parameters cannot be edited although there are infinite levels of undo and redo available.
